We had a great day yesterday! We finally got to return to our music class, which we've been missing since I got sick in early February. Maia was so happy to see her friends, our teacher, and the instruments. She was a little clingy at first, mostly because she woke up so early, but then she warmed up and had a fabulous time. We got to sing all of her favorite songs, and even learned a new one from the upcoming session.
Our music class is taught in a wonderful artist's community, complete with a fabulous cafe. Each week after class, we venture down there for a snack and some chat time with the other kids and Mommies. (When Mommy and Daddy lived in Maine, there was a coffee shop we visited literally every day that had the best muffins on the planet, bar none. In the 6 1/2 years since we left Maine, we've searched far and wide for a muffin that came close, though none ever has. This place, while not as good, is the best we've found yet. Poor Mommy- finally some fabulous muffins, and the GD has taken them away!) Yesterday we ended up spending more than an hour hanging out after class. Maia was thrilled to spend time with her friends, particularly the twins, Hannah and Lily. They told her all about their ballet class, which Maia is now desperate to join. We'll see if we can still get her in! (And yes, she happily devoured a muffin all on her own. Definitely our kid!)
The rest of our day was spent with a quick trip to the grocery store, a great nap, a long walk for Gritty, and... Maia eating Swiss Chard and Parmesan Tart for dinner... with two bites of broccoli actually making it to her tummy. Woo woo! Maybe this diabetes diet will have more than one postive outcome! She had another great night's sleep in her new bed, and woke up in a wonderful mood.
This morning we made it back to another favorite activity- Colin's playgroup! We used to go to a wonderful little shop each Friday for playtime and parent time. Gradually, Maia got a little too old, as did the wonderful friends we made in our group. Colin's Dad had the brilliant idea to move the older kids group to his house. Maia was delighted to be back at the group today, playing with her friends and Colin's awesome toys. The highlight was watching her and Colin build a train track, and then race their trains around it. We had to leave the group a bit early to head to yet another diabetes appointment, this time with a nutritionist. Much to Mommy's dismay, she told me to keep up the good work. Guess this GD thing is the real deal. Maia was great at the appointment, as always, though she was disappointed that yet again we didn't get to hear Evie's hearbeat. Next week!
The afternoon found us taking Gritty for a long walk, and then excitedly opening the mail. Maia got in to preschool! Woo woo! It's a little crazy, the whole business of applying to schools when your kid is 2... but, it's how things seem to be done. We looked at lots of different options, and found one school that we thought would be a perfect fit for Maia. It's an amazing place, and the only place we could see sending her. And so we put all our eggs in one basket, defied the norm around here, and only applied to one program. If she didn't get in, I'd be delighted to get to keep her home with me next year. Alas, she's in... Actually, we're thrilled that she's in. She'll go five days a week, but for only three hours each day. We know she'll thrive in the environment, and Evie and I will get some time to do some of the wonderful activities I got to do with Maia when she was a wee one. It should be great for everyone!
