It was all about Daddy this weekend! Saturday morning found Maia and Daddy at the table in their jammies reading books. There was just time for a quick breakfast, a costume change, and they were off to Little Gym. It sounds like they had a wonderful time, as always, though Maia was still a bit nervous about using much of the equipment. Luckily, Daddy did some somersaults of his own to make up for it. They came home right after class, no Starbucks(!), so Daddy could wisk Gritty off to the vet. The Grittster had irritated his eye, and was also in need of his yearly shots. While they were gone, Maia helped Mommy make cookies for a baby shower later that afternoon. We made little girl cookies and decorated them with pink frosting dresses and candy belts. Maia loved getting to decorate them and they were a big hit later that afternoon! She also helped me get dressed for the shower in my one semi-nice maternity sweater and usual jeans. With less than 8 weeks to go, and more likely 4 - 6, who wants to spend money on cute maternity clothes?? This Mommy wants to spend money on cute skinny clothes!!!
Maia and Daddy were on their own for the afternoon, and by all accounts they had a great time. A healthy lunch, a terrific nap, and then playtime! Woo woo. Daddy took Gritty for a big walk when Mommy came home. (It was raining, and the girls were still battling our umpteenth colds so we stayed home and cuddled.) And then Maia helped me make a delicious Asparagus-Mushroom-Cream Cheese frittata for dinner. Who said all diabetes foods are flavorless and boring?!
Sunday morning brought more Daddy time as Mommy headed off to a natural childbirth class. With Maia still under the weather, we didn't want to leave her with anyone. Now it's up to Mommy to teach Daddy everything she learned! Maia and Daddy dropped me off at class, and then went out for... pancakes! I can only imagine how delighted Maia must have been to once again get to eat a food that can be dipped in Maple Syrup! Daddy said she also had a great time counting the jelly packets on the table, and really seems to be getting 1-1 correspondence! Very exciting. They made a trip to the playground to work off all those carbs, and then headed home to entertain Gritty. At noon they picked me up, much to my delight. There's nothing like sitting in a room full of adults and having an adorable toddler spring through the door and come running towards you grinning from ear to ear and shouting your name. Definitely one of the best feelings ever.
After we gave up trying to convince Maia to take a nap, we all headed out to the grocery store. We've switched to using cloth bags for all our groceries- great for the environment, bad for prego Mommies. The bags are pretty big, and no matter what we ask, the packers always load them up soooo heavy. Mommy can barely get them out of the cart into the car, let alone into the house. So, we brought Daddy muscles to do the heavy lifting. Maia loves the grocery store, and was beyond delighted to be there with Daddy. He really does make everything more fun!
The rest of the afternoon was spent putting groceries away, cleaning up the house, and making/eating dinner. And then, finally, it was bedtime. We all cuddled in Maia's new big girl bed (we let Gritty stay on the floor) and read some of our favorite books before helping Maia drift off to dreamland. It was a great weekend, sickness and all, though Maia was definitely missing Daddy this morning!!!!
