Meet Dr. Maia

Maia loves doctors. Clearly, she has no memory of the many shots she received as an infant! (Clever how they're all finished by the 18-month appointment.) She hasn't been to see her own doctor since September, but she remembers her very vividly and speaks kindly of her suprisingly often. She also frequently asks to go see her, though I'm sure this is largely a result of the many doctor's visits she's made with Mommy over the past 6 or so months. At any rate, doctors are of great interest to her... and are officially my new favorite heroes.

This morning got off to a bit of a rocky start. My demon cold is refusing to budge, making for an extremely tired Mommy. Maia, on the other hand, had a great nap yesterday and slept wonderfully overnight, thus she woke up raring to go. Under normal circumstances, even when pregnant, I can usually keep up with her and we have some wonderful adventures. Today, though, I just wanted to keep her happy. And so, out of sheer desperation, we headed to Toys 'R Us with a singular goal: a doctor's kit. What better way to keep Maia happy, and keep me laying on the couch, than to make her a doctor?!

Even I didn't foresee what a gigantic hit this would be. Maia LOVES being Dr. Maia. She spent the entire morning listening to every heartbeat she could find (including Gritty's!), taking blood pressures, administering vaccines and kisses, checking reflexes, and keeping detailed notes on her clipboard. And much to my surprise, at 12:30 she asked to take a nap, in her doctor's jacket of course. She went right up to her room, climbed into bed, and fell asleep for almost an hour and a half.
When she woke up, it was right back to playing doctor. I didn't think anything could top this activity, until... the doorbell rang around 4. Maia was beside herself with excitement to receive her very first Valentine's Day bouquet from her wonderful Daddy. (Thanks Daddy! And thanks for Mommy's BEAUTIFUL roses! She's feeling better already!) Since the flowers arrived, she's been carrying them around and playing doctor at the same time. It's quite a sight!
Happy Valentine's Day!
