Our last big adventure on vacation came on Thursday when we headed to Campobello Island in Canada. When we left our rented vacation house, it was 80 and sunny. When we arrived in Lubec for lunch, just 40 minutes away, it was sixty and misty. We had a quick and yummy lunch, and then we drove over the bridge into Canada- Maia and Cecily were very excited to visit a new country.
Campobello was the summer home of FDR and his family. It's now a lovely museum, and we had a great time telling Maia and Cec about this incredibly important time in history. After looking at lots of photos in the museum and watching a brief film, we headed over to visit the house. It has been completely restored/preserved to look exactly as it did at the time of his presidency.
After we finished our tour, Sean, Maia and Papa went on a brief hike to see another little area of the island. Cecily and I were a little underdressed and decided we were too chilly to venture out. By all accounts the hike was gorgeous!
We spent Friday enjoying our last day in Maine- we played on the beach, went for some lovely walks, and enjoyed one last day with our wonderful family. We were up bright and early Saturday morning to head home to get our pup. Papa drove with us, and as we left the area we had one final stop to make... this crazy looking blueberry. We had all seen it as we drove in, but had never ventured back in its direction over the vacation. Since it was open, we couldn't help stop. Inside, there was everything blueberry one could imagine. We were mostly interested in the physical structure... it was crazy.
We stopped for lunch at our favorite, Gritty McDuff's, and then went to get our own Gritty. He had a fabulous week with Linda! He is so much better on leash- he responds instantly to corrections and no longer tries to pull our arms off. He's still a little naughty when we walk near another dog, but the difference is so amazing from his behavior prior to boot camp that we're not too worried. We'll get there.
All in all, it was a wonderful vacation! We loved seeing our wonderful family, had some great adventures, and can't wait to see everyone next summer... in Alaska? California? Somewhere else?
